Campylobacter bacteria are the number-one cause of food-related gastrointestinal illness in the United States. ARS scientists are currently sequencing multiple Campylobacter genomes. This scanning electron microscope image shows the characteristic spiral, or corkscrew, shape of C. jejuni cells and related structures.
